I’ll admit it: I’m totally the person who waits for new movies to hit streaming instead of heading out to the theater. There’s just something about curling up at home in a good blanket, snacks in hand, that I can’t resist. But when my parents came to visit (and told me they’d never been to the movie theater here in Yorkton), I knew I had to change it up.
So off we went, ready for whatever was showing, and it turned out to be the latest in the Jurassic franchise: Jurassic World: Rebirth. With Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey starring, it was hard not to get a little excited!
Honestly, nothing will ever beat the original Jurassic Park for me, but I have to say, this was a pretty fun watch. I actually found myself more invested in the family’s storyline with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo than in Scarlett and Jonathan’s characters. There was just something about their dynamic that really pulled me in.
I can safely say I liked this one more than the second Jurassic World movie, but not quite as much as the first or third. Still, Jurassic World: Rebirth is packed with fun callbacks and nods to the earlier films, so if you’re a fan, you’ll definitely spot a few Easter eggs.
All in all, I’m really glad I left my usual movie-watching spot at home and shared the experience with my parents. They enjoyed it, and my step-dad didn’t even fall asleep during the movie, which is some high praise! If you’re on the fence about seeing it in theaters or waiting for streaming, I say give it a shot in person if you’re up for some nostalgia and dinosaurs!
