Habitat For Humanity is looking for continued support from the City of Yorkton, as the organization looks to continue its work in the city, having built ten homes in the community over a 15-year span.
Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan CEO Kelsey Stewart spoke to City Council Monday, suggesting a number of ways council could lend its support.
Among those suggestions were donating land for home builds, along with municipal funding, specifically a $15,000 donation per door, which is the amount that has been provided by other communities in the province, such as Regina and Prince Albert.
As well, Habitat is asking for the city to waive utility hookup fees while Habitat homes are under construction, and the invite the City to be involved in the planning process when it comes to future Habitat homes.
Council approved a motion to gather further information to discuss the topic at a later date.
