Yorkton City Council has approved updates to its Fire Prevention Bylaw, which focus on the responsibilities of landlords when it comes to rental properties.
Deputy Fire Chief Dallas D’aoust says the updates focus on the responsibility of landlords to ensure fire safety inspections are done in rental properties, which now, not only includes apartments, but also other buildings, such as single family dwellings, duplexes, and side-by-side houses.
D’Aaoust notes that landlords won’t be charged for the initial fire inspections on their rental properties, but there will be a cost for follow-up inspections.
