Saskatchewan RCMP say an officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a call on Muskowekwan First Nation early Thursday.
Police say officers were called to a report of an armed individual at a residence around 2 a.m. on July 24. As officers arrived, a firearm was discharged and one officer was struck. The officer was transported to the hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
An armed suspect fled the residence on foot. Other occupants inside the home were not physically injured, according to police.
At around 6:36 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP issued an alert for Muskowekwan First Nation and the surrounding area.
RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team located the suspect at a rural location near Lestock, Sask. and contained the area. The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 8:50 a.m., and the dangerous person alert was cancelled.
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Provincial General Investigation Section is now leading the investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.
Police say they do not believe there is any further elevated risk to public safety related to the incident.
