Municipalities across Saskatchewan are receiving a boost through more than $1 million in new funding from the provincial government.
The funding is being delivered through the Targeted Sector Support Initiative, or TSS, which supports projects that improve municipal service delivery through collaboration, training, planning and regional cooperation.
Among the 19 approved projects this year is a $61,987.50 investment in the Town of Langenburg. The funding will support a business case and feasibility study for a potential multi-use facility in the community.
In southeastern Saskatchewan, the RM of Golden West No. 95 is receiving $36,000 for a joint project with three other partners. The Southeast Saskatchewan Municipal Asset Mapping Platform Project aims to improve infrastructure planning through shared data.
The Town of Ituna, along with four municipal partners, will receive $100,000 for regional emergency planning and the amalgamation of fire department governing bodies. The province says the project will help strengthen emergency response across the region.
And in the Village of Kennedy, a $9,486 grant will support a training session for municipal bylaw enforcement involving 17 communities.
Government Relations Minister Eric Schmalz said the initiative continues to help communities work together.
“We are pleased to invest in projects that promote and support the growth, strength and vitality of this province,” Schmalz said in a statement.
Since it launched in 2020, the TSS Initiative has provided more than $6.5 million in funding to 168 municipal projects.
The program is administered by the Saskatchewan Association of Urban Municipalities, with support from the Ministry of Government Relations and other provincial municipal associations.
