Just wrapped up the last of my summer holidays, and while most people are soaking up the sun at the beach, camping under the stars, or enjoying the great outdoors, my week looked a little different. Instead of packing swimsuits and sunscreen, I packed up my youngest’s goalie gear and headed to the rink in Regina. He’s been going to this goalie camp for 4 or 5 years now, and every summer, he looks forward to it more and more. I took the week off work so I could be there for him, and honestly, I don’t mind trading sand between my toes for the sound of skates on ice.
Sure, the mornings came early—alarm clocks set before the sun was even up—but there’s something special about watching your kid do what he loves. The best part about those early mornings? He finished up camp by early afternoon, which left us plenty of time to explore Regina, try new places to eat, and squeeze in some summer fun together. It definitely wasn’t all drills and pucks!
Summer might look a little different for everyone, but I hope you’ve all found a way to relax and enjoy some downtime, too. Here’s to making the most of every moment—on and off the ice!
