Legacy Co-op has announced plans to build a $18.5 million Travel Centre at the corner of Highway 9 and Grain Millers Road, aimed at providing professional drivers, RV travellers and local motorists with improved services and amenities.
The facility, covering roughly 10 acres, will include 24-hour fuelling for diesel and gasoline, high-flow diesel lanes with satellite pumps for semis, dedicated light-vehicle fuelling, showers, washrooms, laundry, a truckers’ lounge and parking for approximately 30 semis and 15 RVs.
The site will also feature a convenience store and lounge covering 6,400 sq. ft., along with outdoor amenities including a picnic area and off-leash dog park.
“Drivers in and around Yorkton need a fast, clean and reliable place to fuel, park and refresh,” said Harley McClughan, general manager of Legacy Co-op. “Our Travel Centre will make that possible – 24/7 – with ample parking, 24HR self-serve fuelling, high-flow diesel, showers, hot food and family-friendly spaces, all delivered with the service and community commitment members expect from Legacy Co-op.”
The project is intended to address safety and congestion issues along Highway 9, where traffic volumes are high and nearby agricultural processing expansions are increasing truck and employee traffic. A new service road from Grain Millers Road will provide access to the site, separating heavy and light traffic.
Legacy Co-op has completed a traffic impact analysis in consultation with the RM of Orkney, the City of Yorkton and the Ministry of Highways, with a final report still pending.
“This is a practical investment in our community,” McClughan added. “It supports regional industry, improves safety and gives travellers a dependable place to stop. It also creates jobs and keeps spending local.”
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, pending final approvals, with heavy-traffic fuelling, light-traffic fuelling, parking, and the Travel Centre development planned to proceed concurrently.
The facility is anticipated to open in late 2026 or early 2027, creating both temporary construction employment and permanent roles once operational.
The announcement comes shortly after the Government of Saskatchewan revealed last week that it will cover up to half the cost of upgrading Grain Millers Drive.
