The Waywayseecappo Wolverines will officially open their fall training camp this Thursday as preparations begin for the 2025–26 MJHL season.
Head coach and general manager Landyn Cochrane says excitement is building with players making their way back.
“We’ve got a lot of local players from Manitoba and Saskatchewan arriving this week, getting settled in with their billets and ready to hit the ice,” Cochran said. “It’s always exciting to get back to the rink full-time.”
The Wolverines have also added a new face behind the bench, with assistant coach Dylan Tanner joining the staff.
“Dylan brings a lot of energy, and together we’ve got a young, energized staff that’s really looking forward to camp kicking off,” Cochrane said.
Cochrane expects plenty of competition across all positions.
In goal, veteran netminder Jace Wareham is back to lead a group of young goaltenders.
“Jace has plenty of experience here, so we’re going to let him ride with the starting job, but it’ll be a good battle for depth in camp,” he said.
On the blue line, the Wolverines return four veterans while welcoming three new signings and a group of younger prospects.
“We just want them to keep things simple early and avoid getting into bad habits,” Cochrane noted. “We’ve got a solid core returning, and we’re excited to see what the new guys and younger players bring.”
Up front, the Wolverines will be led by the return of veteran forwards including Ben Roulette, alongside a number of younger players looking to take the next step.
“We’ve got a lot of ’06-born guys who will be leaned on in every situation, like Sebastian Stone, Dylan Duzan and Rhett Perrin, plus some ’07s like Noah Oughton and Mikey Thomas,” Cochrane said.
Camp begins Thursday night and will feature inter-squad games running through Saturday, capped off by the annual Joe Brandon Cup. The Wolverines will then head to Yorkton on Sunday for their preseason rookie game.
