The Government of Saskatchewan is investing about $1.3 million in capital grant funding to improve safety and accessibility in group homes and day programs for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Social Services Minister Terry Jenson says the money will help people live with dignity and independence.
“By investing in capital improvements, we ensure that our service delivery partners can continue to deliver quality programming to adults with intellectual disabilities so they can live with dignity, purpose and choice in their communities,” Jenson said in a statement.
The funding is part of the 2025-26 provincial budget and supports a multi-year plan to modernize residential and day program facilities. Grants will go toward projects such as kitchen and bathroom upgrades, accessibility improvements, fire-safety enhancements and other structural repairs.
In the region surrounding Yorkton, several organizations will benefit:
-
Deer Park Villa Inc., in Ituna, will receive support for interior repairs and upgrades.
-
Porcupine Opportunities Program Inc., in Porcupine Plain, will receive funding for exterior upgrades and the installation of a generator.
-
Redvers Activity Centre Inc., in Redvers, will undertake interior and exterior upgrades.
Other service providers across the province, including organizations in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw and Estevan, will also receive funding.
The government says residential services give people with intellectual disabilities supportive community living, while day programs and supported employment help participants build skills, form relationships and gain work experience.
