September 4th edition of the Swan Valley Stampeders Coaches Show on GX94, presented by Bumper to Bumper-Swan River featuring Stamps play by play voice Benny Walchuk and Head Coach & GM Josh Tripp
Benny Walchuk: Josh, the team’s been getting back into the swing of things lately. Let’s rewind to the weekend—how did fall camp go?
Josh Tripp: The camp was awesome. We had some very high-paced games and were really happy with how the guys played. Our inter-squad game on Sunday morning was especially competitive. There was a lot of good stuff we saw, and we’re feeling super confident heading into the season based on that weekend.
Benny Walchuk: Any surprises or standout performances from the camp?
Josh Tripp: Definitely. A few of our returning guys came back really determined and clearly put in the work over the summer. Ben Groome and Riley Fequet stood out, along with several others. It’s great to see that hunger to be a winning team. We also had a couple of younger local players who showed really well, which makes us excited for the future of our local talent.
Benny Walchuk: You also had your first preseason game Tuesday night against the Waywayseecap Wolverines. What did you take away from that win?
Josh Tripp: A lot of positives. We had a younger lineup with mostly rookies, and they came together quickly despite having little practice time. They executed what we asked of them and played hard. We ended up with a big overtime win, which was great to see.
Benny Walchuk: Preseason continues tonight against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. What are you hoping to see from your team moving forward?
Josh Tripp: That same determination. Everyone’s hungry, and we want to treat these preseason games like regular season matchups. Keeping the intensity high and playing with purpose will be key in getting us ready for when the season officially starts.
