CRYSTAL LAKE — The Crystal Lake Recreation Committee held its third annual Community Golf Tournament at the Crystal Lake Golf Course on Aug. 23.
“The rec committee was excited to have sold out the tournament 10 days prior with 80 golfers attending,” said Shawn Krotenko, one of the organizers. “The tournament was an all-ages, all-abilities four-person best ball Texas Scramble. Everyone gets to golf with friends, meet some new people from the lake and the surrounding area, and have a chance to win some prizes,” he said.
Prior to the tournament start, the CLRC had a Putt for Prizes set up on the practice green. Everyone could purchase three balls and had a chance to win anything from a bag of chips, restaurant and grocery gift certificates, or a bottle of liquor, up to a vehicle detail package or oil change gift certificate.
This year, the CLRC added prizes for longest drive, shortest drive, ending up in a sand trap, and the mystery box for each of the nine holes.
Once the tournament was over, the golf course served a pulled pork supper with lemon cheesecake dessert while guests had a chance to enjoy the Saskatchewan Roughrider football game. After supper, each golfer was able to pick a prize by random draw of the team score card and had a chance to win the 50/50 draw or the three-person Paddle Board Raffle drawn that evening. Kaylee Diduck of Yorkton won the paddleboard.
“The CLRC would like to thank the Crystal Lake Golf Course for hosting our tournament, the 80 golfers who attended, and the 83 business and private prize donors from the lake and surrounding communities. This tournament would not be the success it has been without all of you,” stated committee chair Shawn Krotenko.
With fall approaching, the CLRC has shifted gears and started planning the 2026 events, arranging bands for the July Johnny's Beach concert, preparing for Fun in the Sun's 40th anniversary on the August long weekend, and next year’s Community Tournament.
“We look forward to seeing everyone again next summer.”
