CANORA – This year marked my first season as pool manager, and after spending the last four years being part of this amazing facility in various roles, stepping into this new position was both exciting and a little intimidating.
We officially opened on June 1, right on time, as hoped by Aaron Herriges, our Director of Leisure Services. This marked the start of our third fantastic season in operation at the new pool. My team has been incredible this year with seasoned staff returning and fresh faces joining us.
We’ve continued offering the following programs:
Aquafit: every Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7–8 p.m.), plus Saturday and Sunday mornings (10–11 a.m.)
Lane Swim: also Tuesdays and Thursdays (8–9 p.m.), and Saturday and Sunday mornings (9–10 a.m.)
Swimming Lessons: Our first session of swimming lessons began June 9, running through to June 20 from 4–7 p.m., and registration opened on May 20 at 5 p.m. via the Town of Canora’s public access site. Our swimming lesson programs were full, with families from all around the area signing up for multiple sessions throughout the summer.
Public swim hours were consistently busy, and it was great to see the community using the space to stay active, cool off, and spend time together. Whether it was little ones splashing in the shallow end or teens racing off the diving board, the pool truly felt like a hub of summer fun.
Public swim hours were consistently busy, and it was great to see the community using the space to stay active, cool off, and spend time together. We hosted a fun pool party, had fun diving board contests and three-on-three basketball tournaments. I am so excited to see what kind of activities we can put together next season.
As we close the gates on another season, I want to thank our lifeguards, instructors, support staff, and, most importantly, the Canora community for showing up and making this season what it was.
I’m so proud of what we accomplished together and already looking forward to what next summer will bring.
