MELVILLE — A Melville grandmother is celebrating after winning more than $1.37 million on a Saskatchewan VLT.
Wanda Ward was awarded $1,377,655.89 after hitting the grand jackpot on Vault Breaker at Western Pizza in Melville on Sept. 7, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation announced.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Ward said with a laugh. “I was the only one in there when I won. I was shaking.”
Ward said she already knows how she’ll use her windfall.
“I’m going to share with my family,” she said. “And I’m going to spoil my grandchild. She turned three months old on the day I won, and it was Grandparent’s Day.”
Vault Breaker is a wide-area progressive game linking more than 4,200 VLTs across 560 sites in nearly 270 Saskatchewan communities.
The province-wide grand jackpot, which pays out before reaching $1.5 million, has now been reset to $500,000. Since 2017, the game has paid out more than $54 million to 54 winners.
The Saskatchewan VLT program is managed by Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan and operated by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.
