PREECEVILLE — Local sports teams, community groups and organizations are keeping Preeceville residents busy this fall with a full slate of activities.
Preeceville Panther sports teams are on the move again. On Friday, Sept. 26, the cross-country team will head to a meet in Saltcoats, the football team will travel to Lanigan, and the senior girls’ volleyball team will compete in a tournament in Moosomin. On Saturday, Sept. 27, the junior girls’ volleyball team will take on Sacred Heart in Yorkton.
The Preeceville School will also hold its annual Terry Fox Walk on Sept. 26. Students are fundraising for cancer research, and residents are encouraged to show their support.
Meanwhile, the local Air Cadet Squadron has launched its new season. Cadets meet at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Legion Hall. The federally funded program is open to youth aged 12 to 18 and focuses on developing life skills, leadership and teamwork.
Fall supper season has also begun in the region. This Sunday, Sept. 28, Canora Ukrainian Catholic Hall will host supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., organized by the UCWL. On Sunday, Oct. 5, Norquay Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church will host supper at the Norquay Communiplex Hall. Trinity United Church in Preeceville will hold a ham and perogy supper on Saturday, Oct. 18, followed by another event the next day at the Buchanan Community Centre. The Endeavour Community Complex will host a supper on Sunday, Oct. 26, with doors opening at 4 p.m.
Preeceville’s annual Great Pumpkin Contest takes place Saturday, Sept. 27. Weigh-in starts at 10 a.m., followed by prizes and a barbecue at noon. Entry forms are available at the Town Office, Shop Easy, Gateway Co-op, and the libraries in both Preeceville and Sturgis.
That same day, the Missing Piece will host a fall outdoor trade show from 4 to 8 p.m., featuring local vendors, beverages and baked goods at the café.
Looking ahead, the annual Halloween Dance at the Preeceville Hall will be held Oct. 25 with music by Nightlife Entertainment. Advance tickets, available at the Town Office, are $5 cheaper. The event is for adults only.
