YORKTON — Culture Days in Yorkton launched for another year Friday at the Yorkton Public Library.
Yuri Forbes-Petrovich, Library Manager at YPL noted Culture Days “are not an event that comes together on its own,” adding it takes numerous organizations and volunteers “that step forward” to make the numerous events happen.
Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle said that Culture Days which run through to Oct. 12, are a big part of the community.
“Culture is at the heart of who we are,” he said, adding the varied events of Culture Days show both the cultural diversity of the city “and what we share in common.”
The message was echoed by Sherry Whitehawk who gave the opening prayer.
“Culture is important – It is so very important,” she said.
Kienle said in celebrating the varied cultures which are part of Yorkton we become better both as individuals and as a community.
Forbes-Petrovich said he hopes everyone becomes involved encouraging all “to participate in at least one event,” adding “. . . there is something for you.”
