What a week we have had in Rocanville with the Rocanville Lucky Lottery. I have been lucky enough to be with this fantastic crew since the beginning of their lotto, well the second time around for the lotto (I mean I’m not that old). You probably could sing the Lucky Lotto jingle from way back when.
They brought their lotto back and in the past 4 years have been able to raise enough money to rebuild their indoor swimming pool. It’s almost ready for it’s grand opening and what a day that is going to be. I was able to see the original pool and this week got a tour of the new one. It’s all a surprise so no pictures to share. BUT I did interview Kirby, Chair of the Rocanville Lucky Lottery at the pool.
The best part of being on location is getting to meet people. After you spend 4 – 12 hour days in the same room with a group of volunteers, you can’t help but swap stories, laughs, and see how many of them you can convince to come on the radio with you. Brad from Rocanville was a champ and did just that. He grew up in Russell and remembers hearing the Rocanville Lucky Lottery jingle on GX94. He played for the Swan Valley Stampeders and was telling me stories about being on the bus with Terry Struthers. (It makes me pretty darn proud to be a part of GX94 which has been a part of so many people’s lives). He lives in Rocanville now with his family, and his 3 boys have all followed in his footsteps … or skates? Yes, they all play hockey, so Brad said it makes perfect sense for him to come and volunteer during the Rocanville Lucky Lottery.
And then there were the girls from the Rocanville Dance Club that came on the air with me. These cuties made my day!
You can still get a ticket, but you are running out of time. We stop selling tickets at 8:30pm tonight, and we’ll start making the draws for all of our prizes at 9pm. $100,000 is our grand prize! Have a look at all the prizes you can win and then we hope to hear from you.
