KAMSACK — Everyone is being invited to James Rudd Memorial Fire Hall in Kamsack on Oct. 13 to enjoy a pancake breakfast, while helping to celebrate 70 years that the Kamsack fire department has been supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
This fire department began supporting muscular dystrophy in 1955, said Ken Thompson, fire chief.
The breakfast, free of charge, is to be prepared and served by firefighters. It will include pancakes, sausages, whipped cream and chocolate chips, juice, tea and coffee, Thompson said.
Pancake mix has been donated by Parrish and Heimbecker, a Canadian agribusiness with a facility Yorkton that offers grain handling and merchandising services, as well as crop input products and agronomic services to local producers.
“We’re also contacting businesses for donations for door prizes,” Thompson said.
During the breakfast, a fire truck will be used to give rides for children and adults, he said. There will be a jar for a silver collection for muscular dystrophy.
“Firefighters are part of Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s DNA,” said information on the organization’s webpage. “Our partnership is seven decades strong and growing.
“Your continued support is changing thousands of lives in your community and across the country.
“Firefighters are literally and figuratively breaking down barriers every day,” the information said. “Whether you’re saving lives by breaking through doors, rescuing people from dangerous situations, or helping communities during emergencies, firefighters embody the spirit of overcoming obstacles.
“In their partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Canada, firefighters extend this same determination, working tirelessly to eliminate barriers to care, support, and accessibility for people living with neuromuscular disorders, helping to ensure a better future for the neuromuscular community.”
The website says that more than 600 fire departments and associations across Canada support Muscular Dystrophy Canada and more than $100 million has been raised by firefighters across the nation in the 70 years since establishing their partnership.
