YORKTON – Yorkton Regional Airport has completed a emergency response training exercise designed to test readiness and strengthen coordination among local agencies.
The exercise took place on October 1 and is held every four years as part of Transport Canada’s certification requirements. It brought together airport staff, Yorkton Fire Protective Services, RCMP, EMS, local Search and Rescue and other community partners.
“This exercise is designed to make sure that, in the unlikely event of a real emergency, all agencies know their roles and can work together effectively,” said Jody Hahn, the City of Yorkton’s airport manager. “This helps us keep our certification with Transport Canada.”
The simulation centred on an aircraft incident, giving participating groups a chance to practice communication, coordination and on-the-ground response.
“These exercises are about identifying gaps and barriers,” said Yorkton Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey. “There were not many, but there’s always little things with the way airports are run. We identified them and they are easily solved.”
The City says the training helps keep passengers, staff and the broader community safe while ensuring all agencies can respond together when needed.
