The Melville Fire Department is putting community and safety first during Fire Prevention Week running this week until Friday.
This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety,” focuses on the safe use of lithium-ion batteries in homes.
To celebrate, Melville Fire Rescue will host an Open House and BBQ on Thursday from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Melville Fire Hall . Visitors can tour the hall, meet firefighters, and learn fire safety tips .
Proceeds from the BBQ — $6 for a smokie and pop or $5 for a hotdog and pop — will support new rescue and extrication equipment . The department is also recruiting new members .
Fire Prevention Week is a reminder that simple safety habits can save lives.
