The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s weekly awards were full of Parkland flavour, as players from the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires combined to take home three of the league’s six honours.
Yorkton defenceman Thomas Ries and rookie forward Kale Johns both earned recognition after helping lead the Terriers to a pair of statement wins over Humboldt, while newly acquired forward Kale Margolis continued to impress in Melville with a strong offensive week.
Ries was named the SuperU Defenceman of the Week, following an outstanding three-game stretch that saw him record three points while playing heavy minutes in all situations.
Johns, a Lumsden product was named the SaskMilk Rookie of the Week after scoring three goals in two games — including his first career SJHL marker.
Over in Melville, forward Kale Margolis was named the Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week after a dominant stretch that saw him collect six points in three games.
The 19-year-old from Kinistino has registered points in each of his first three games and recorded a three-point performance on home ice Friday.
Melfort’s Kason Kobelka was named SGEU MVP of the Week after two wins, a shutout, and a .962 save percentage against Battlefords. Estevan’s Rylan Williams earned Bourgault Forward of the Week honours with six points in four games, including an overtime winner in La Ronge while Nipawin’s Gage Roberts picked up SaskTel Goalie of the Week, stopping 65 shots with a 1.50 GAA as the Hawks entered the national rankings.
