DAUPHIN — Dauphin RCMP have arrested a man after a road rage incident early Wednesday morning.
Mounties say the incident began shortly after 12:45 a.m. on October 8 when officers received a report of a vehicle being chased by another driver who was allegedly brandishing a knife.
Officers located the victim’s vehicle on Mountain Avenue, where the victim told police he had been confronted by the suspect in a parking lot moments earlier. The victim said the man pulled out a knife, prompting him to flee as the suspect followed at high speed.
Investigators say the two men were not acquainted.
The suspect’s truck was found a short time later where officers initiated a traffic stop. RCMP say the man initially refused to cooperate and two female passengers later exited the vehicle after numerous orders to do so.
All three occupants were arrested and found to be intoxicated.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a knife and a small amount of cocaine.
Twenty-nine-year-old Dylan Smith of Valley River has been charged with several offences, including:
- Failing to comply with a release order
- Flight from police
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while over 80 milligrams
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
The two female passengers, aged 28 and 37, both from Valley River First Nation, were released without charge.
RCMP say the investigation remains ongoing.
