BUCHANAN- Highlighting the importance of arts and culture in our communities, the annual Saskatchewan Culture Days celebration took place from Sept. 19 to Oct. 12.
In Buchanan, the local library hosted an Art Fair and literary presentation by Lynne Harley at the Buchanan Community Centre on Sunday, Sept. 21, said Helen Ogden, one of the organizers.
“Crafters included artisans that meet weekly in our community to work alongside one another,” said Ogden. “Our artists brought water colours, pastels, oil paintings, pottery and carvings to view. The quilters had presenters with small pieces all the way up to large quilts.”
Harley, writer of the award-winning book What If You Could, spoke to the gathering about her newest project, I Can Do It Afraid.
“She carried us through the process of birthing this new publication and the efforts needed to bring it to print. Watch for it in the spring of 2026,” said Ogden.
The Buchanan Prairie Quilters announced the coming raffle of a special quilt.
“In the spring of 2024, our community lost a great friend and community member, Shirley McLeod,” said Ogden. “The quilters group became the beneficiary of her remaining fabric.”
When a nearly completed quilt top was found, the quilters decided to compete in in her honour, with the cost of completing the project to be covered by a raffle of the quilt.
Tickets are three for $5 and will soon be available through Marie at the Library or the BPQ on Mondays at Club 50. The draw will take place on Monday, Dec. 15.
Tickets will also be available on Oct. 19 at the Buchanan Fall Supper and the quilt will be on display at that time.
Refreshments were served at the Buchanan Art Fair and the local artists were able to share their various projects.
“Thank you to everyone who shared their work and to those who attended,” concluded Ogden.
