YORKTON – The 8th Yorkton Scouts recently held a book drive at its hall in the city.
The idea of the event was a simple one by Scout Jakob Dobson – bring a book, take a book, enjoy a book.
Through the one afternoon event people were encouraged to bring books to the hall, peruse the volumes gathered and take home whatever they wished.
Books left over at day’s end were destined for donation to ‘lil libraries’ that exist around the city.
Dobson, in his seventh year with the Scout organization, said the idea arose as he was focusing on a community-minded project to achieve his Chief Scout Award.
The idea of supporting reading with a book exchange fit the criteria, and Dobson said it seemed to be a well-received idea.
The project will end Dobson’s time as a Scout as he will now advance to Venturer.
