OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled a Roquefort cheese from Maison Gabriel Coulet because it might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
The product subject to recall is Roquefort — La Cave cheese sold in 100-gram packages with an expiry date of Nov. 3, 2025.
Quebec and Ontario are affected by the recall and the agency says consumers who have this product should throw it away or return it to the store.
The agency says it is conducting a food safety investigation and may issue further recalls, adding that no cases of people falling ill have been reported to date.
It says food with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may not show visible signs of contamination, or have a suspicious odour.
But the contaminated food can cause vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and neck stiffness.
Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable. Pregnant women can transmit the bacteria to their baby, leading to risks of premature births or deaths.
