PREECEVILLE — The Preeceville- Sturgis Committee of the Parkland Music Festival held its initial fall meeting on Sept. 9 to plan for the upcoming music festival that will be held April 20 to 23, 2026.
The Parkland Music Festival serves the Preeceville, Sturgis, Stenen, Norquay, Kamsack, Canora, Buchanon, Endeavour, Hazel Dell, Invermay communities and districts.
The festival is planned by both the Canora Committee and the Preeceville-Sturgis Committee, alternating year by year. In 2025 the Festival was hosted in Canora. In 2026, it will be hosted in Preeceville and Sturgis.
The Festival includes piano, voice, bands, instrumental soloists and ensembles, as well as speech arts and choral speech. There is also an opportunity to enter performances in different languages. This is an exciting option for the many ethnic community members who live in the province.
Individuals, school classes, and bands from the area will be adjudicated. Entrants may also qualify to be considered for Provincial competitions. Adjudicators are hired from across the prairies through the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association.
The last time the Festival was held in Preeceville and Sturgis was in the spring of 2023 with 111 entries in the various categories participating.
The piano and voice, as well as school class presentations, will be held in the Trinity United Church in Preeceville on Monday, April 20 and Tuesday, April 21. The instrumental band solos and ensemble entrants will perform at the Grace United Church in Sturgis on Wednesday, April 22. The full Band entries will be held on Wednesday, April 22, in the evening and Thursday, April 23 at the Sturgis Composite School Gym.
All performances are open to the public. There will be programs available for sale at the door, but entry to any performance is a “free will offering”. There will also be refreshments provided by the Music Festival Committee at “break times” during each session, throughout the week.
Entry forms are found “online” on the Saskatchewan Music Festival web site under Parkland Music Festival–Preeceville. There will also be forms available from local piano teachers and band instructors. The deadline for entries is Feb. 13, 2026.
An Awards Concert will be held on April 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Trinity United Church to conclude the Festival. The concert will highlight some of those who entered to give a “sampling” of the talent offered during the week, as well as presenting the awards and scholarships sponsored by local businesses, church groups and individuals from the area.
The Music Festival Committee says it is looking forward to another successful year providing this opportunity to support the children, youth, and adults in the area. The Music Festival is hoping for strong support from the local community, including many volunteers, as well as donations for the cost of the Festival and attendance at the performances.
