The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 45 calls from Oct. 16 to Oct. 23, some of which included: one 911 Act call, one abandoned vehicle, three animal calls, one disturbing the peace, two failures to comply with conditions, three Family Law Act calls, four false alarms, one Firearms Act call, one Mental Health Act call, two municipal bylaws calls, two impaired operation of a motor vehicle, one suspicious person, two thefts, three traffic collisions, 16 traffic offenses, one trespassing and one wellbeing check.
Corn maze 911 call
On Oct. 17, a woman called 911 reporting that they were lost in a corn maze and won’t be able to make it back home for their court ordered curfew. The caller was warned for misuse of 911.
Illegal waste dumped by non resident
The Canora RCMP investigated a report on Oct. 21 of illegal dumping at a waste site by a non-local resident in a rural municipality. Police would like to remind the public that rural RM residents are to use their designated waste sites only. If you don’t know where your local waste site is, you can contact your RM office, and you will be provided with that information.
No cause for concern
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a wellbeing check on a cyclist south of Canora on Oct. 21. A bike was reported to have been abandoned in the ditch, and the caller was concerned for the safety of the bicyclist. Police investigated and located the bicyclist nearby safe and sound.
Wanted woman arrested for disturbance
On Oct. 23, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance call at a home in Canora. Police attended the residence and arrested an intoxicated woman on scene who was wanted for an outstanding warrant of arrest for assault. The woman was held in custody until sober and was released on an undertaking for court in Canora.
Driving impaired with child
On Oct. 11, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that the driver of a silver SUV was intoxicated, hit the ditch, and that a child was in the back seat of the vehicle. Police located the vehicle on a grid road in the RM of Insinger. The male driver had obvious signs of impairment and admitted to having “two” drinks. The manwas arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and provided two breath samples of 190mg%. He was charged with operation while impaired of a motor vehicle, operation while over 80mg%, abandoning child, and uttering threats. The child was not physically hurt and was turned over to their mother.
Dangerous nails found
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Oct. 13 to a report that nails were found on a wildlife lands trail by Rama. Police attended and photographed the nails and properly disposed of them. No suspects were identified.
Family feud
A man reported being assaulted by a female family member at a residence in Canora on Oct. 14. Police attended the scene, but the woman had left. A warrant of arrest for assault has been issued for the woman.
Father takes child without permission
On Oct. 14, the Canora RCMP assisted the Yorkton RCMP following a report that a young child was taken without permission from their mother’s residence after a short unannounced visit. After much effort police were able to locate the father and child. The child was unharmed and child family services took custody of the child on scene. Investigation is ongoing.
Tires of out of province hunter slashed
The Canora RCMP investigated a report on Oct. 14 that tires were slashed on a truck parked in the Rockford area of the RM of Preeceville. The caller believes he was targeted as he was an out of province hunter. Investigation ongoing.
Stolen diesel tank
On Oct. 4, the Canora RCMP investigated a report of a stolen 500-gallon diesel tank. The tank was stolen from a property in the RM of Preeceville sometime in the beginning of September.
Morning gunshots
The Canora RCMP investigated a report of heard gunshots that occurred early in the morning on Oct. 5 in Preeceville. Police investigated and determined that a firearm was discharged on Fifth Street SE in Preeceville. A newer model white truck was observed in the area at the time of the incident. Stolen side-by-side
The Canora RCMP were notified by a business in Preeceville on Oct. 7 that the business was in possession of a stolen John Deere Gator side-by-side. The Gator was stolen from a dealership in Rosetown in 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
Knife threats
On Oct. 8, the Canora RCMP were called to a residence in Canora for a disturbance inside the residence. A second call was received informing police a woman at the home had threatened someone with a knife. Police attended the scene and investigated. A 23-year-old woman from Canora was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. The woman was released on an undertaking with conditions to have no contact with the victim.
Dangerous used oil drop-off
The Canora RCMP investigated a report on Oct. 9 that used motor oil was dropped off after hours at the Canora Service Station leading to a hazardous mess requiring clean up. Police want to remind the public that the Canora Service Station is not a designated drop off facility for used motor oil and filters. It’s against the law to dispose of your used motor and filters at a non-designated drop off facility and could lead to charges and/or fines. Fatal moose collision
On October 9, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a moose south of Canora on Highway 9. Police attended the scene along with the Canora Fire Department. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by EMS. Traffic was temporarily halted as the injured moose had to be euthanized and removed from the middle of the highway.
