The 36th Annual Grain Millers Harvest Showdown in Yorkton held their Grain & Forage Show Awards Evening last (Thu) night.
Awards were handed out for the Commercial Grain Show, the Forage Show, and the Pedigreed Seed Show.
The last order of business was the Farmer Recognition Award, and it was presented to Brett and Rebecca Callin of the Saltcoats district.
Brett says he was humbled to learn they were winning the award this year.
They run a cow-calf operation with a mixed grain farm.
Callin says they farm 700 to 800 acres of grain land, and also have about 250 cows.
He notes his grandfather started the farm when he returned home from the Second World War in 1946.
Callin is pleased with cattle prices right now, but adds the price of farm land is preventing him from expanding his operation.
He and his wife, Rebecca, have three sons, and he says they love helping out on the farm.
Callin also volunteers at Harvest Showdown, as he is heavily involved with the Commercial Cattle Show and Sale.
