YORKTON – The Yorkton Terriers travelled to North Battleford for a two-game set against the North Stars over the weekend.
In Friday’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League tilt the home side took an early lead and never looked back.
The lead came 6:47 into the contest off the stick of Anthony Campbell – the lone goal of the opening stanza.
In the second period an even-strength goal by Josh Knittig and Campbell with his second of the contest – this one on the powerplay – made it 3-0 through 40-minutes of action.
It was 4-0 as Carter Geysen potted a goal 5:31 into the final frame.
Ryder McDonald would foil Steele Bass’ shut out bid with the Terriers lone goal of the contest at 9:25 of the third period and a 4-1 final.
Callum Creig was tagged with the loss in Yorkton’s net facing 32-shots.
The teams hooked up again Saturday for a rare afternoon encounter.
In this one the Terriers struck first – a powerplay goal by Zawatsky 16:06 into the contest.
In the second period the teams traded goals.
The Stars tied it 3:50 into the frame on a goal by Adam Konowalchuk.
A goal by William Leonard at 9:03 reestablished a one-goal Terrier lead headed to the final stanza.
Yorkton extended its lead to 3-1 when Gabriel Courchesna notched one on the powerplay at 5:45.
The North Stars made it a dicey finish for the visitors when they drew within one with a powerplay goal by Finlay Klippenstein at 18:26.
However, the North Stars couldn’t push the equalizer past winning netminder Alexandro Montoya who faced 30-shots as Yorkton won 3-2.
Kaeden Serpa took the lost in the home-side’s net facing 39-shots.
Midweek in LaRonge
The Terriers travelled north to take on the La Ronge Ice Wolves Nov. 5, getting out to an early lead.
Terrier Jye Zawatsky scored the lone goal of the opening period at 8:50.
In was all Terriers in the middle frame as Gabriel Courchesne, Zawatsky with his second on the game – this one on the powerplay, and Cash Lanigan all scored to make it 4-0 through 40-minutes of play.
Mikale Budz made it 5-0 1:25 into the third period.
The Ice Wolves finally got into the game as William Knox scored at 7:04 and Everett Merchant at 9:10 to make it 5-2.
But an empty net effort by Austin Horbachewsky salted away a 6-2 Terrier win.
Alexandro Montoya was in net for Yorkton facing 36-shots.
The loss was tagged on Graham Brown for LaRonge. He faced 43-shots.
