YORKTON – The Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society is celebrating a step forward in preserving one of the province’s oldest industrial landmarks.
The Brick Mill Heritage Society received a $2,000 Museum Improvement Micro Grant from the Museums Association of Saskatchewan.
The grant helped install electrical power to the historic Yorkton Brick Flour Mill, connecting the 1898 structure to the new Interpretive Station that is currently under construction.
Society president Larry Pearen said the upgrade marks an important milestone.
“This improvement brings us another step closer to creating a fully accessible and connected heritage experience for visitors.”
The installation of power will improve safety, enhance visitor access and open the door to future features like Wi-Fi and interactive digital exhibits to the only remaining brick flour mill in Saskatchewan.
Pearen said the long-term goal is to develop the mill into a year-round attraction that highlights Yorkton’s agricultural and milling roots while strengthening the region’s tourism and educational offerings.
