YORKTON – A ‘Day of Solemn Remembrance” was held in Yorkton Tuesday.
The ceremony saw a large crowd gather at the Flexihall to mark Remembrance Day.
The ceremony began with a parade of those involved; dignitaries, Legion members, the Yorkton & District Pipe Band, reservists, RCMP, army, navy and air force cadets and others, led by Sgt. At Arms Comrade Barry Whitehead.
A large number of wreaths were laid including by Silver Cross Mother Bonnie Rushowick, MP Cathay Wagontall, MLA David Chan, Yorkton Tribal Chief Isabel O’Soup, Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle and many others.
In Flanders Field by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae was recited by Cadet MBdr Enoch Erhaze.
Music for the ceremony was provided by vocalist Jennifer Haas, the Yorkton Community Concert Band under the guidance of director Larry Pearen, the YRHS Choir (Katia Geirgeson, director), and the Yorkton Tribal Council Drum Group.
A number of hymns were sung as well.
