Saskatchewan Roughriders' receiver Samuel Emilus is from Montreal, Quebec so for the 112th Grey Cup, he has the opportunity to do interviews in two different languages.
"To be honest, it is so hard to go back and forth with English and French, that's been the hardest part this week," Emilus explained to voice of the Riders, Dave Thomas.
"I'm being asked a question in French, then the next one is in English, so I gotta switch up my whole mind. My whole brain is on go, but it's a fun thing to do. It doesn't happen to everybody and I'm enjoying the moment."
In 2025, the Green and White finished the regular season with a 12-6 record, first in the West Division. The Riders beat the B.C. Lions in the West Final 24-21. Saskatchewan's next challenge comes against the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup. It will be the third time the two teams face each other in the CFL championship, 2009 (28-27) and 2010 (21-18) as Montreal won both.
For the Green and White, Emilus played and started in seven games in 2025. He caught 37 passes for 588 yards and two touchdowns. That is why, reflecting on the regular season, he detailed why the Green and White camaraderie helps the team overcome adversity.
"We all know, in football, it's all three phases of the game, and when one is not going well, we can always count on one to do well and help us with that," Emilus said. "So far, as the year has gone, we all know that at all three phases, as long as we play together, we're going to be fine."
The Grey Cup is in Winnipeg this year, so many wonder how players like Emilus are adjusting to the new environment.
"I'm pretty good at being on time with stuff and being available in places I need to be at," Emilus said. "I'm getting used to stuff right now, but it's going pretty smoothly."
There is one issue that Emilus has with the media when it comes to what the team wants more: either Trevor Harris winning his first Grey Cup as a starter or him wanting his teammates to win.
"I don't see why people see it as Trevor Harris winning his first Grey Cup as a starter, everybody on the team is important," Emilus said. "We feel that we want to win it for Trevor, and Trevor wants to win it for us, so we're going to make it happen."
Harris' first Grey Cup was in 2012 when he played for the Toronto Argonauts, Ricky Ray was the starter. The next one was in 2016 with the Ottawa Redblacks, Henry Burris was the starter.
When the Riders and the Alouettes faced each other in 2025, each team won a game against each other. The first was in Week 9, when Saskatchewan beat them 34-6, and the rematch in Week 15, which they lost 48-31.
Emilus laid it out: what the Green and White need to do to succeed against Montreal on Sunday.
"Play Saskatchewan's brand of football, which is being physical, playing fast, and violent," Emilus said.
The 112th Grey Cup between the Riders and the Alouettes takes place on Sunday, and the game will start at 5 p.m. In anticipation of the event, make sure to catch the 620 CKRM Rider Broadcast Network pre-game show at 2 p.m. featuring Dave Thomas, Luc Mullinder, Teagan Witko, Justin Dunk, and Wes Cates.
