YORKTON – Yorkton residents will again see a significant hike in water rates in 2026.
“On Nov. 3, the Committee of the Whole Council supported the Environmental Committee’s recommendation of an 8.91 per cent adjustment to water and sewer utility rates effective Jan. 1,” reminded Connor Hunt, Director of Environmental Services with the city at the regular meeting of Council Monday.
Hunt said the increases was initially as established through the updated 2025–2027 multi-year rate model.
The increase will be roughly $7 for the average household.
In addition, a new Emergency Disposal Containment rate is also proposed for 2026. The wastewater treatment plant currently accepts deleterious substances hauled by hydrovac and manages them through an emergency containment lagoon, a process that is complex, slow, and resource-intensive. Historically, no surcharge has been applied for this service; implementing this rate will ensure appropriate cost recovery when the emergency containment lagoon is utilized, said Hunt.
The increases were given unanimous support by Council Monday.
