YORKTON — The Yorkton area has been struck by two widespread power outages this month.
The first, on Nov. 9, was the bigger incident. According to Joel Cherry, a media relations and issues management consultant with SaskPower, a total of 5,226 customers were affected in Yorkton, Ebenezer, Otthon, Willowbrook, Jedburgh, Parkerview, Springside, Theodore, Insinger, Sheho and Good Spirit Lake, among other areas.
The other on Nov. 16 affected a total of 3,462 customers in Yorkton, Ebenezer, Springside, Theordore, Insinger, Sheho and Good Spirit Acres.
Cherry said the outages were unrelated but were both caused by birds getting into equipment on the same side of a substation, so many of the customers experienced both outages.
According to Cherry, no upcoming power outages are planned for the substation due to these incidents.
