The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League will take part in the revived Viking Cup, returning for the first time since 2006.
The league will send a team of 2005 and 2006-born all-stars to compete internationally and showcase their talent to U Sports and ACAC programs.
SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre says the event is a major opportunity to promote the league’s top 20-and-under players and help open doors for post-secondary careers in Canada.
The Viking Cup, once a major international tournament in Camrose, Alberta, will run again from December 27th, 2025 to January 4th, 2026.
The event originally operated from 1980 to 2006 and became a key scouting stop, producing more than 400 NHL draft picks, including Dominik Hasek, Henrik Lundqvist, Joe Pavelski and Patrik Elias.
The tournament is being revived by the Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association and will feature five teams: Czechia University Selects, SAIT Trojans, the U20 SJHL All-Stars, Augustana Vikings, and Midland University from Nebraska.
Organizers say the revamped Viking Cup aims to blend high-level international competition with community involvement and a family-friendly atmosphere, honouring its legacy while introducing a new generation to the event.
