CANORA —The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 44 calls from Nov. 13 to Nov. 20, some of which included:
- five 911 Act calls,
- three assaults,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one break and enter,
- one Coroner’s Act call,
- two criminal harassments,
- one disturbing the peace,
- four false alarms,
- one Firearms Act call,
- one fraud,
- one harassing communications,
- three mischiefs
- three Mental Health Act calls,
- one offender management,
- one suspicious person,
- one theft,
- two traffic collisions,
- eight traffic offenses,
- two uttering threats and
- one wellbeing check.
Fuel thief leaves trail
On Nov. 13, the Canora RCMP investigated a report of fuel being stolen from multiple vehicles in Sturgis. Footprints in the snow led a nearby residence. Police investigated and charged a 53-year-old man from Sturgis with theft.
Worrisome propane smell
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Nov. 15 to the RM of Good Lake for a wellness check on a woman. Police approached a trailer and could smell propane. Police forced entry into the trailer and removed the woman from inside. The woman had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by EMS.
Man assaults woman
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to an assault call at a residence in Canora on Nov. 16. Police attended the home and learned a woman had been assaulted by a man. The man was located walking down the street and was arrested and charged with assault. The man was released on an undertaking to have no contact with the woman.
B.C. ID theft with Sask. connection
The Canora RCMP investigated an identity theft on Nov. 17 after a receiving a call from a man in British Columbia. Police investigated and determined the man’s identity was used to fraudulently obtain services from SaskPower at a residence in Preeceville. A suspect has been identified.
Missing care home resident found cold, confused
On Nov.18, at 03:47 AM, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that an 88-year-old woman had shown up at a residence in Preeceville cold, confused, and scared. Police and EMS went to the home and determined the woman had walked away from her care home.
Assault with axe
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora for a report of an assault on Nov. 19. The caller reported a man had swung an axe at him following a dispute over money. Police investigated and obtained a search warrant for the home. The axe was seized, and the 56-year-old homeowner was charged with assault with a weapon. The man was released from custody on an undertaking with the condition to have no contact with the victim. The victim was not injured.
Farm break & enter, theft
On Nov. 19, the Canora RCMP investigated a report of a break and enter to a farm property in the RM of Keys. Multiple items were stolen. Investigation is ongoing.
