YORKTON – The City of Yorkton has announced that Councillor Randy Goulden has received an Honourable Mention in the 2025 Local Government Awards, presented by Municipal World.
This national recognition celebrates Councillor Goulden’s outstanding contributions to municipal leadership, community development, and advocacy at the local, provincial, and national levels.
Councillor Goulden was first elected to Yorkton City Council in 1997 and continues to serve the community with distinction. Over nearly three decades on Council, she has contributed to a wide range of portfolios, initiatives, and committees, helping guide Yorkton through long-term growth, strategic planning, and community development.
Currently, Councillor Goulden serves as President of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA), representing urban municipalities across Saskatchewan. Throughout her many years with SUMA, she has championed modern governance, municipal autonomy, community safety, and strong provincial–municipal partnerships. At the national level, she has served as Chairperson of both the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Standing Committee on Community Safety & Crime Prevention and the National Rail Safety Committee — helping influence national policy affecting communities across Canada.
Beyond municipal governance, Councillor Goulden is widely recognized for her extensive volunteer work and her leadership in the arts, tourism, recreation, and sport sectors. She has worked closely with Tourism Yorkton and the Yorkton Film Festival, served as Chairperson of the Tourism Saskatchewan Board of Directors, and held terms as President of both the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association.
Her volunteerism includes long-standing involvement with the Saskatchewan Winter and Summer Games, World Junior Hockey Challenge, Yorkton Music Festival, Yorkton Dance Association, Yorkton Nursery School Association, Yorkton Figure Skating Club, Rotary Club of Yorkton, Band Boosters, Ukrainian dance, and many other community-building groups. She also chaired Yorkton’s celebrations for the Vancouver Olympic Torch Run and chaired a Royal Visit to Yorkton, helping to showcase the community on a provincial and national stage.
“Thank you to Municipal World for this recognition,” said Councillor Randy Goulden. “It has been an honour to serve the people of Yorkton and to work with so many dedicated partners at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. Municipal leadership is a collective effort, and I share this acknowledgement with the community volunteers, organizations, and colleagues who work every day to strengthen our city. Yorkton is my home, and I remain committed to helping our community continue to grow as a vibrant, safe, and welcoming place to live, visit, and do business.”
Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle praised the announcement, highlighting Councillor Goulden’s decades of impact: “On behalf of City Council and the residents of Yorkton, I want to congratulate Councillor Randy Goulden on this well-deserved Honourable Mention. Her leadership — locally and across the country — has contributed greatly to Yorkton’s success.
