RAMA – An incredibly high-energy two-hour live show with Scott Woods and his talented band took place at St. Anthony's Parish Hall on Sunday Nov. 9 to kick off the Christmas season with a Christmas Hoedown bursting with festive cheer, amazing trick fiddling, hilarious comedy, sensational step dancing along with many favorite Christmas classics. The show had it all with professional sound and lighting as well as big screen projection for the entire audience not to miss a minute of Scott's incredible talents!
Scott Woods, known as the “Flippin Fiddler” is a multiple winner of both the Canadian Open Fiddle Contest and the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition. He has also been named Canadian Fiddle Entertainer of the Year. In 2018, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grand Masters Fiddling Association for his contribution to Canadian music.
Performing with Scott at Rama was his sister, Kendra Norris, known as "The Harmony Ace," who also has been named the Canadian Fiddle Champion (various classes, multiple times) and Canadian Duet Fiddle Champion. Besides being the pianist, she's also a vocalist and added comedy to the show with a tribute to "Cousin Minnie Pearl." Later in the show, the audience was roaring with laughter when she became a Hawaiian hula dancer while Leo sang "Mele Kalikmaka" (Hawaii's way to say "Merry Christmas").
Also, 21-year-old dynamo Leo Stock, drummer, fiddler and step dancer simply amazed the audience with his step dancing! Nicknamed "Spaghetti Legs", Leo recently won his third consecutive Canadian Open Step Dancing Championship. His lightning-fast feet kept the audience glued to the big screen giving them a front-row view as they watched in amazement!
On both acoustic and electric guitar was Steve Piticco who also has been awarded multiple CCMA Guitar Playing of the Year awards as well as holding the title as Bluegrass Flat Picker of the Year from the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards.
Special guests Gary and Nadine Boles, a husband-and-wife duo, have performed with Scott on several tours. Nadine was vocalist and played guitar while Gary was bassist. The audience enjoyed Nadine's beautiful voice as she sang many favorite Christmas classics. But she thrilled the audience when she sang Silent Night and O Holy Night while being accompanied by the harmony of the three fiddlers with Scott, Kendra and Leo. New Christmas songs she added were the Christmas Hallelujah and Nothing But A Child.
Scott, Kendra, Leo and Steve have produced numerous CDs that were available for purchase during intermission.
Scott awed the audience when he highlighted his fancy bowing and walking on a rolling barrel while playing to the tune of Roll Out the Barrel which led to an instant standing ovation from the audience! The crowd insisted on "MORE" to which Scott provided and received another standing ovation.
Following the performance all were invited for a special "Christmas dessert" and beverage as they mingled with the band.
It was a great honor to have Scott Woods stop in the Village of Rama, with a population of less than 100, to perform an unbelievably fantastic show, knowing that his tour spans across five provinces in 47 towns over 51 days and to have him stop in Rama makes it very special for us!
In addition, his performance helps us with our fundraiser for the Parish Hall. We couldn't be more grateful to Scott for sharing his gift of incredible talent to benefit our small community.
