Canada West has locked in its roster for the 2025 Junior A World Challenge, and teams from both the SJHL and MJHL will be heavily represented when the tournament begins December 7th in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
Yorkton Terriers defenceman Thomas Ries headlines six SJHL players selected. The 19-year-old has been one of the league’s top blueliners this season with 19 points in 20 games. Also named from the SJHL are Kindersley’s Jaxon Herchak, Melfort’s Tao Flory, Humboldt’s Rylan Hue, Flin Flon’s Wyatt Stinton, and Warman goaltender Taye Timmerman.
Four MJHL players have also made the national lineup: Steinbach’s Brody Green, Selkirk’s Remy Hlady, Dauphin’s Ethan Stewart, and Virden’s Colten Worthington.
The bench staff is Prairie-strong as well. Melfort Mustangs head coach Trevor Blevins leads Canada West behind the bench, while Niverville Nighthawks GM Mike McAulay serves as Director of Operations. Winnipeg Blues coach and GM Josh Gratton joins as an assistant coach.
This year’s tournament features Canada West, Canada East, Sweden, and the United States in a four-team round robin, leading into semifinals on December 12th and medal games on December 15th.
Canada West opens the event December 7th against Sweden.
