A livestock producer from Bracken, Saskatchewan won a stock dog competition at Canadian Western Agribition.
Clint Christianson says it was his very first time entering the competition which had 20 other individuals in the field. There was the option of riding horseback.
"I've watched it for years and stuff and just thought it would be fun to come try and do it at Agribition." said Christianson, adding he will compete again next year.
He explained how the competition worked, "They have a designated pattern that you would follow, which is a series of panels and barrels and you have to put them through specific maneuvers and you get points for all the cattle you get through and a time limit with it too, so it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. You always think you're good at home until you come to town and then you find out it doesn't maybe work quite as easily as you thought it would."
June is the dog that helped Christianson win.
"My wife gave her to me for a birthday present, so I had her since a puppy and she's about three-and-a-half years old. We work sheep, my wife has some sheep and we use her on the ranch with the cattle and stuff too," he said.
Aside from the competition, Christianson says they check out the trade show, other livestock, and do business while at Agribition.
"It's interesting to watch, you know, the other ranch horse competitors, the horses and even the rodeo horses and stuff. If you're into livestock, it's a fun place to come, there's a lot of livestock."
