The Yorkton Terriers saw their three-game win streak come to an end Tuesday night, picking up a single point in a 3–2 overtime loss to the Weyburn Red Wings.
Yorkton opened the scoring just 19 seconds in, when Vinay Junek buried his sixth of the year past Nate Stevens for a quick 1–0 lead. Weyburn evened the game late in the first as Luke Schraeder’s point shot found its way through a screen, sending the teams to the intermission tied 1–1.
In the second, Aidan Vallance restored the Terriers’ lead on the power play, jamming in a rebound for his fifth of the season. But the Red Wings answered again before the period was out—this time it was Dion Schraeder, who shoveled home his first SJHL goal after a crease scramble to make it 2–2 through 40 minutes.
After a scoreless third, overtime settled things. While down on the ice, Luke Schraeder managed to sweep in his second of the night, lifting Weyburn to its 16th win of the season and a fourth straight victory over Yorkton.
Nate Stevens was outstanding for the Red Wings, turning aside 37 of 39 shots for his sixth win. Callum Creig made 27 saves for the Terriers in the OT loss.
Yorkton now heads to Kindersley for a weekend doubleheader with the Klippers starting Friday night. Weyburn continues its homestand Saturday and Sunday against the Battlefords North Stars.
Elsewhere Tuesday:
The Nipawin Hawks held off a late push from La Ronge to secure a 3–2 win.
Mason Karakochuk, Tiernan Ryan, and Will Whitter scored to give Nipawin a 3–0 lead after two, before Trevor Oishi and Jacob Morrison struck in the final 1:49 to bring the Ice Wolves close.
Goaltending was the story again—Colten Scott stopped 42 of 44 shots for the Hawks, while La Ronge’s Graham Brown made 45 saves in the defeat.
