REGINA — It was a historic milestone achievement for Innovation Saskatchewan.
The organization marked 25 years for the Innovation Saskatchewan R + T Park Regina, located just south of the University of Regina campus.
The occasion was celebrated with an event marking the anniversary, which included a panel discussion with leaders from the University of Regina, PTRC Sustainable Energy and Greenwave Innovations.
Innovation Saskatchewan has two such R + T parks, the other being in Saskatoon. The Regina location was the second one in the province, having been established in 2000 as the Regina Research Park.
It was renamed Innovation Place in 2007 and Innovation Saskatchewan R + T Park Regina in 2025.
Together, the two locations host a wide range of companies and organizations in the innovation sector, with access to nearby universities and research facilities.
The Regina location is host to over 35 research and tech tenant companies with over 1,000 employees. Saskatoon has over 120 research and tech companies with over 2,900 employees.
Minister of Trade and Export Development Warren Kaeding was at the anniversary event. He noted this coincides with many developments happening in Saskatchewan’s innovation sector.
"Well, it's an exciting time to be able to see this level of interest in what's going on in the province. I mean, the one thing we are known for in this province is innovation, from the time it was first settled to the developments we've been in agriculture, now that we're seeing in critical minerals and in the energy space. It's just a very exciting time for us to recognize innovation that's going on here."
Kaeding said Innovation Saskatchewan has been "able to bring all of the entities together, all of the sectors together and be able to share all the research ecosystem that we've got that's so well known here in a product."
"They're a great facilitator of all the great entities that we've got operating, whether it's the University of Regina or it's our various research partners that are a part of this, and that's what Innovation Saskatchewan has been able to do — bring all of these entities together."
