STURGIS — The Sturgis Gateway Co-op’s new grocery store officially became a reality when it welcomed shoppers for the first time on Dec. 4.
The first wall was erected on June 4. The store, located on the east outskirts of the Town of Sturgis, began construction in the spring and took shape with the walls installed using refurbished boards.
“We are excited to see this project become a reality,” Brad Chambers, CEO.
The store doubles the space capacity and features a meat-cutting department, a full bakery and a liquor department. “The extra space will offer a better selection of products that will be easily displayed,” said Chambers.
The store has a special feature wall with a grain elevator made from grain-sculpted wood from an old elevator. The store hours will remain the same for this year but could possibly change in the new year,” said Chambers.
Chambers was also on hand to welcome eager shoppers when the doors opened for business on Dec. 4.
