YORKTON — The Yorkton Public Library is once again doing its part to help area residents enjoy some seasonal outdoor activities.
The winter gear lending library is returning for 2025-26. Children’s programmer Coralee Danyluk said the library has had the program for a few years, after the Parkland Valley Sport Culture and Recreation District provided support.
The program has proven to be popular over the years, she said, although Danyluk said the library is trying to get the word out, so the library has reached out to the media. She believes other libraries have had a similar program.
The library has one pair of snowshoes and a snow-building set that people can borrow, she said, along with eight different types of sleds, such as two-person, saucer and scooter sleds.
People can borrow the items for a week, but they must have a library card.
“We don’t let them check out for too long because of if someone else is waiting for a particular item,” she said.
Danyluk finds that people enjoy the program because they don’t have to go out and purchase special supplies; they can use what the library has to offer.
