YORKTON — It was all smiles for those involved with the Love Bus in Yorkton as they received a major donation last week.
Yorkton Hyundai, Yorkton Concrete and NL Construction teamed up to collect food and donations and the result was a large pile of food and an even bigger cheque – one for $17,260.
“This is big,” said Love Bus representative Marilyn Lutz. “This helps with hampers for Christmas. . . Helps us all through the year to buy groceries.”
The Love Bus goes around the city each week making stops to offer people coffee, spiritual support and food. Lutz said they spend about $400 a week on the food portion of what they do.
Lutz explained they are also doing Christmas hampers, 150 for families, and 75 for single families, up from 150 in 2024.
“The need is there,” she noted.
Wade Barton with NL Construction said the fundraising effort is one they are happy to be involved with.
“We’ve done it for a couple of years now,” he said. “Ron (Kaban with Yorkton Hyundai) kind of spear-headed it.”
Barton said they appreciate some people need some extra help, “and we definitely want to help out.”
Yorkton Concrete’s Darren Campbell said they too “recognized the need in our city,” and it just felt right to pitch-in to help out, especially during the Christmas season.
Lutz said she is just grateful for the support.
“We want to thank all of the people who came out to help us,” she said.
