PREECEVILLE — The Roughrider Snowmobile Club hosted a one-day snowmobile safety course at the Preeceville School on Nov. 29 with Johnny Petryshyn as instructor.
All snowmobile operators who were born on or after Jan. 1, 1989, are now required to complete a snowmobile safety course before operating a snowmobile on public land.
A snowmobile operator with a class 7 licence (learner's permit) must now be supervised or accompanied by a qualified driver when operating on the travelled portion of a public road. This is in addition to the provision that requires them to take a safety course.
“The course covered topics of rules, the laws, the No Trespassing Law, some basic rules and some hands-on experience with explanation on how a snowmobile operates,” said Petrysyn.
Age Restrictions
You must be at least 12 years of age to enrol in the online safety course.
When an individual without a driver's licence turns 16 years of age, they are no longer required to be supervised when operating a snowmobile on public land, provided that they have completed a safety course.
