KAMSACK — Music was played, carols sung, hamburgers were eaten, bells jingled and Santa Claus handed out treats and encouraged everyone to have a great time during the Community Christmas Party held at the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack, Dec. 13.
Organized by a committee that included members of town council and staff, the party was nearly a full day of activity from noon to 8 p.m. when Santa Claus was the featured guest. He encouraged people to have their photographs taken with him at his Winter Wonderland scene.
A student band, under the direction of Darren Kitsch, and included members of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute beginner, junior and senior bands and members of the Good Spirit School Division Parkland Combined Band, with students from Canora, Preeceville, Sturgis and Norquay, played several numbers.
Also entertaining was a duo from Yorkton called The Reflections, who sang and played several Christmas carols.
Persons attending had been urged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Stuff the Cruiser promotion, in which an RCMP cruiser was used to collect the items that were to be used to fill Christmas hampers that were to be donated to student families as well as senior citizens.
Tickets to a 50/50 lottery were sold, Kamsack air cadets distributed copies of their annual calendar containing special dates of area residents and a table laden with chocolate almonds was on display.
The kitchen served hamburgers and French fries and upstairs, youngsters assembled for several youth-oriented activities, including face painting, colouring images of Christmas decorations and making “tattoos.”
Santa’s helper encouraged people to lace up their skates for a short turn on the ice with him, while on the curling side of the Sportsplex, a curling demonstration was featured.
