A blizzard warning was issued for the cities of Regina and Saskatoon and other parts of Saskatchewan.
The warning also covered the city of Moose Jaw and more than 200 RMs. The southeast region was the latest to be added to the warning.
"A strong Alberta clipper will bring heavy snow and strong, gusty winds, leading to blizzard conditions over portions of southern Saskatchewan beginning Wednesday morning [Dec. 17]," the warning states.
Snowfall accumulations of 10-20 centimetres were expected. North to northeasterly wind gusts of 70-90 kilometres per hour were also forecasted, causing visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow.
There was also a risk of freezing rain throughout the day, extending from Leader and Kindersley, southeast towards Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, Estevan and Broadview.
"Travel will be dangerous and likely impossible due to near-zero visibility. Road closures are possible," the warning stated.
Freezing rain and wind warnings were also in effect on Dec. 17.
