Filling the Gap in Canora
Mavis Watson from Filling the Gap in Canora made her way to GX94 this holiday season so I could present her with a $1,000.00 cheque from the GX94 Christmas Goodies cookbook proceeds. She wasn’t expecting this donation this year and told me that donations have actually dropped in the past year, so this one was needed and much appreciated. This marks our 5th year being able to donate money to Filling the Gap in Canora with this year’s donation bringing us to a total of over $4,000.00 donated. I remember my donation run 3 years ago when I met Mavis for the first time at the food bank in Canora. Last year I was able to meet her husband and this year she and I connected again.
The Gateway Co-op in Canora has sponsored the GX94 Christmas Goodies cookbook for the past 5 years. This day really feels like a reunion for me with some very special GX94 listeners and long time contributors to the cookbook. I’ve gotten to know these listeners really well throughout the years, and I distinctly remember my first time meeting some of them. Knowing the name, and even seeing their writing in my mind’s eye from recipes sent in, to then finally putting a face to that handwriting, is a special moment. The time and energy that these listeners have put in to sending me recipes throughout the years is humbling. So this year, it was really fun getting to see Olivia’s reaction when she had her turn meeting the same listeners.
Thank you again to the Gateway Co-op in Canora and to all of the GX94 listeners who came to buy their 2025 GX94 Christmas Goodies cookbook. The $1,000.00 donation made to Filling the Gap in Canora this year would not have happened without you.
