CANORA- After an earlier than normal end to last season due to curling rink plant problems, Canora and area curlers are once again ready to curl for the coming season.
“The issues with the plant have been resolved,” said Terry Wilson, Curling Club president. “The club has been busy preparing for the upcoming season and we are very excited to once again offer something for everyone.”
Highlights on the schedule include:
- Afternoon drop-in curling will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome. A great way to meet new people and play a fun, fast paced curling game. As doubles becomes more popular the club is looking at moving to two-person curling on one of those days.
- Wednesday evening is for the kids. Little Rocks curling is from 6:30-8 p.m. This is primarily an instructional night where kids develop basic fundamentals to be successful on the pebbled ice…but they get to play games and have fun while doing it.
- Thursday night is the very popular Adult Rec League. Suitable for all skill levels, it is a fun league that focuses on socialization and community spirit. Draws are at 6 and 8 p.m. Chicken wings and your favourite beverage are a must on Thursday nights.
- The club has a wide array of school and youth events throughout the season and is hoping to develop its high school curling program.
Planning is in the works for several bonspiels this year including:
- the revival of the true Boxing Day spiel (Dec. 26-28);
- the afternoon senior spiel (Jan. 5-8);
- the town and country open spiel (Jan. 22-24);
- the Ted Palagian memorial stick spiel (Feb. 16);
- the brand new Jack and Jill spiel (March 4-7); and
- the popular Wind Up Funspiel (March 26-28).
