INVERMAY – As we near the end of the year, staff and students at Invermay School have been busy preparing for Christmas break. The elementary students have been working hard to polish up their Christmas concert and everyone has been working towards preparing for the New Year. We’ve got lots of fun activities coming up!
Both of our senior boys and senior girls volleyball seasons came to an end in November.
This year marked the first time in many years that Invermay School hosted a Sr. Boys Volleyball team. These boys were a younger team and improved immensely throughout the season. The new rotations, new positioning, and a faster pace brought challenges which the boys faced head-on. Once they found their groove, the boys showed up and put in the work. The team took part in a couple larger tournaments in Langenburg and LeRoy and mini-tournaments in Kamsack and Norquay as well as hosting their own. The boys wrapped up their season at conferences in Annaheim, where they faced many teams they had not met earlier in the season. Despite these challenges, the boys have grown both individually and as a team this whole season. Everyone came together and supported one another.
The senior girls had a whirlwind of a volleyball season this year. Playing every single weekend except for Thanksgiving, the girls really improved their skills each and every time they stepped on the court. For tournaments, they travelled to Preeceville, Melville, Wadena, Foam Lake, Estevan, and Raymore. The girls hosted their own mini tournament on Oct. 9. They also hosted SHSAA 1A Conferences where the girls placed second, earning themselves a spot at Regionals. Regionals were held in Watson. At Regionals, the girls won their first game against Kinistino and lost to Annaheim in the round robin. The girls lost to Watson in the semifinals and a heartbreaker in the bronze medal match to Bellevue. The hard work, dedication, and improvement throughout the year was impressive to say the least. This was a great group of girls who developed a very strong bond and love for the game of volleyball. They were very fortunate to have very supportive parents and fans this year. A special shoutout to Tyla Dubas, April Grychowski, and Cassandra Ponte who are graduating; for all their years of dedication to senior girls volleyball. Their presence will be greatly missed on and off the court.
The Invermay School Red Cross group hosted their annual Fall Food Drive. Thank you to everyone who donated! The donations were sent to the Wadena Food Bank.
Anything but a Water Bottle Day at our school was held on Nov. 20! The students had tons of creative ideas. Also, since all of our Mom’s Pantry incentives were met, the first challenge was fulfilled on this day by our SRC members. A total of $4,000 in sales meant the SRC would wear a hair bob and moustache to school. The staff and students all had a good laugh at their costumes.
On Nov 26-28 the students and staff took part in lunch time competitions. On Nov. 26, the staff and K-4 students went head to head in an intense game of dodgeball!
Then, the 9-12’s played an equally intense game of volleyball against the staff on the 27th. The staff was in action again on the 28th as they played against the Grade 5-8 group in another exciting game of volleyball. Way to go everybody!
A huge thank you to everyone who made the new Invermay School volleyball net system a reality! Your financial help was invaluable and allowed us to have a fantastic season. Every one of our teams enjoyed showing off the new setup while hosting games, tournaments, and even Conferences this year.
